See, What Had Happened Was... Recap Week ending 4/28

See, what had happened was… On this day in history (April 29, 1992), a trial jury acquitted four Los Angeles Police Department officers of assault and use of excessive force on Rodney King, RIP. This event jump started the LA riots. Still, to this day it seems that we can’t all get along.  Now on to sports... This news didn't happen last week but I needed to include the biggest story of the sports world so far this year, it couldn't wait until my next posting.  On Monday morning April 29th, Sports illustrated released a self written article about Jason Collins. Collins became the first active athlete in a major American sport to announce that he’s gay...

Everybody still wants to be like Mike.  In Liverpool forward Luis Suarez’s case, it wasn’t Jordan’s example that he was following, it was Tyson. During an English Premier League match between Liverpool and Chelsea, Suarez bit defender Branislav Ivanovic on the arm while fighting for position in front of the goal. Suarez has received a ban from playing that lasts ten games...

Early last week a YouTube mix tape of 14 year old Seventh Woods went viral. Already displaying elite athleticism, he has top level shot making and ball handling ability.  I thought to myself that this kid is really gifted until I saw video of his training sessions.  I then realized that this kid is talented but what shows up on the cute highlights are results from hard work in the gym. His trainer, Marseilles Brown is a man that is pushing him hard to provide the tools it takes to be the very best. Remember the name; we’ll be seeing more of Seventh Woods...

The annual NFL televised bore fest of teams choosing college players to add to their roster. Two things that stood out to me about the Draft were: 1) Green Bay making improvements to their backfield by drafting Alabama stud Eddie Lacy in the 2nd round and UCLA’s deadly Johnathan Franklin. 2) San Francisco got the steal of the draft when they selected Marcus Lattimore with the 131st.  Before tearing three ligaments in his knee, he was widely recognized as the best running back in the NCAA...

The NBA lost another star player to injury in game 2 of the series between Oklahoma City and Houston.  Russell Westbrook suffered a meniscus injury as Rockets’ reserve Patrick Beverly lunged to try to make a steal.  Westbrook will miss the rest of the playoffs which gives us the chance to see what Kevin Durant can do when he has to shoulder more of the scoring load.  Needless to say, this lessens the Thunder’s probability of hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy in June...

The San Antonio Spurs put Lakers and their fans out of her misery by sweeping them into the dustpan.  Lakers’ front office needs to do better in the off season. I’ll be sure to write more about this in detail later.  Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, we now know, is tied to the hip of future hall of famer Tim Duncan; with coach Pop saying he will retire as soon as Duncan does...

In the latest UFC marquee, Jon "Bones" Jones literally broke his big toe up the a** of Chael Sonnen before ending the fight in the first round.  I’m not a huge MMA follower but I support guys that run down criminals that steal from senior citizens…

Chad Ocho Cinco adopts a homeless man named Pork Chop.  Chad is a real good dude, just a solid guy all around.  I wish he was still catching balls in the NFL…
