NFL Brain Dump - For The Birds

Week 3 of the NFL season didn't provide fans much as far excitement goes; it pretty much was for the birds. Among the 32 franchises that comprise the NFL, five of them are nicknamed after a particular species of birds. All five - Falcons, Ravens, Cardinals, Seahawks, and Eagles - earned themselves a victory in week 3; in this sense, we can definitely say that last week was for the birds.

Both of these birds reached the end zone against the Redskins.

Paper Pigskin - Good Game Week 3

Start them and sit them, let's go!

Everybody always wants to know which guy they should put into their fantasy football lineup.  Generally, if you draft someone via a high pick, you want them to be your lead dog to just plug and leave in. However, there are some cases that you might want to avoid an elite defense that will give you trouble; the same thing goes for wanting to exploit a terrible defense. I don't subscribe to the "Never sit your studs" philosophy. Draft well, do the work, and exploit plus matchups.

Big Ben needs to take a seat in fantasy lineups this week.

NFL Brain Dump - Worst Week Ever

That was the worst week in the NFL's history. . . blah blah blah. At least that was the noise leading up to the games of week two due to off the field issues by some of the players.  I changed the channel for the most part because those aren't the things that a sports fanatic like myself care about; if you do, then more power to you.  I want to be the guy that brings it to you live and direct about the games themselves. As it turned out, however, it probably was worst week because many key players got injured in week 2.  If you're like me, and felt media coverage of this game got  over saturated with nonsense and you were turned off, here's a recap of what happened last week.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential - Good Game "Start/Sit week 2"

Welcome to my debut Start & Sit column!

If you're not familiar with my writing, when you see "Paper Pigskin Point Potential", I'm referring to FANTASY FOOTBALL.  Real cute, but I'm hoping it will stick and when it does, remember who coined the phrase.

NFL Brain Dump - Welcome Back

Welcome back to another NFL season.  The "NFL Brain Dump" is a series that I write weekly expressing my thoughts on the NFL; this means I get pour my heart out about what occurred during the previous week, whether it be football games or topics that affect the game.  This past week, Ray Rice's domestic situation and rumblings about how much the NFL knew about it is dominating discussions. That said, I'm just going to strictly do a recap of week 1 in this post.

Over their past four games going back to last season's playoffs, the Seahawks
have held Colin Kaepernick, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers
 to a combined 931 yards and a 4:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Packers @ Seahawks... Seattle started the season where they left off, by shutting down a high powered offense and having Russell Wilson effortlessly carve up a defense like a fat man carves up a turkey with an electric blade on Thanksgiving. The Hawks are the NFC team to beat, while the Pack should look at this game as an aberration, it only gets easier from here.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Philadelphia Eagles

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES - Passing 257 ypg     Rushing 160 ypg

Chip Kelly ran the fastest offense in the league last season, getting off a play every 24 seconds. They also were last in the league in time of possession at 26 minutes 19 seconds per game. But most importantly were their 65.4 plays ran per game was food for 12th in the league. When Kelly took over the Eagles last season, he had players that were conditioned to Andy Reid's West Coast system, so he relied heavily on LeSean McCoy and schemed up plays to get Nick Foles comfortable; this meant featuring Desean Jackson and Riley Cooper. One summer later, a different cast of characters have been added to the lineup; guys that are more suited for his style of plays.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Buffalo Bills

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

BUFFALO BILLS - Passing 194 ypg     Rushing 144 ypg

Head coach Doug Marrone came into the league with a reputation of a coach that has an affinity for the ground game, and run the ball is what his team did. The Bills led the league in rushing attempts and were second in rushing yards. This season will bring us more of the same as their first round quarterback from last season still needs to be developed.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Indianapolis Colts

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS - Passing 233 ypg     Rushing 109 ypg

There's much for Paper Pigskin players to love about the Colts' point potential. They play in the what was worst division in the NFL last season  - the AFC South. Indianapolis went 6-0 against its division counterparts in 2013. Playing against weak teams to usually leads to opportunities for an offense to run more plays.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - New England Patriots

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - Passing 255 ypg     Rushing 129 ypg

The talk around the league last season was about the tempo of Philadelphia's offense, when it was actually New England that began the trend (in the NFL) of lining up quick and snapping the ball before the defense gets set.  They ran the second most plays in the league last season, behind the Broncos, which equates to many opportunities for your Paper Pigskin team to acquire points. The injury bug struck this team harshly, forcing Bill Belichick to alter the game plan on a weekly basis; this made it hard to trust any of their players, even Tom Brady, in your lineup.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Seattle Seahawks

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - Passing 202 ypg     Rushing 137 ypg

This team in the Pacific Northwest are the defending Super Bowl because they're all on the same page and make individual sacrifices for the sake of the greater good of the team. Unfortunately Seattle's team goal does nothing for the goals of Paper Pigskin players.  You see, there isn't enough individual production to go around but if you choose wisely, you can come up big in a few areas.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - San Francisco 49ers

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

SAN FRANCISCO 49'ers - Passing 186 ypg     Rushing 138 ypg

You know what to expect when you see the 49ers play, a brand of power football that was carved out by former coach Mike Singletary and has been enhanced by Jim Harbaugh. They only sign big players that hit hard on both sides of the ball. This is truly a team with an old school mentality.  How does all of this help your Paper Pigskin team?

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - St. Louis Rams

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

ST. LOUIS - Passing 195 ypg     Rushing 110 ypg

This team was making strides offensively early last season, then an interesting happened, Sam Bradford got injured. After losing their starting quarterback, the team had to rely on their defense and special teams to stay competitive because not much was going right on offense.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - San Diego Chargers

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS – Passing 271 ypg     Rushing 123 ypg

The Chargers offense was balanced and highly efficient in 2013. Mike McCoy and Ken Whisenhunt tailored the scheme to their personnel and Phillip Rivers’s career was given new life.  This is both a quality and run-first offense; the team’s running game will be improved from last season with the acquisition of power runner Donald Brown. The threat of an effective running game always shrinks the defense, keeping them off-balanced.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Denver Broncos

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

DENVER BRONCOS – Passing 340 ypg   Rushing 117 ypg

The Broncos were all over network television last season exhibiting their spectacular offensive prowess. More importantly, the Broncos being on TV allowed viewers to watch Paper Pigskin points accumulate at a high rate.  Interesting enough the team led the league in lost fumbles last season, so there’s actually room for improvement on their scoring output.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Oakland Raiders

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

OAKLAND RAIDERS – Passing 209 ypg     Rushing 125 ypg

You think all types of bad things when it comes to the Raiders: bad stadium situation, bad performances, and bad luck. At least their fan base is bad ass though. GM Reggie McKenzie has worked tirelessly to change the culture by making personnel moves in efforts to alter the way the team is viewed. As far as the product on the field, the defense is coming along nicely but the offense is inconsistent and still all kinds of bad.  At least they’ve been able to run the ball well, which is always a solid foundation to build on.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Miami Dolphins

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

Ryan Tannehill is giving the Fantasy Football world a thumbs up,
letting you know that if you snooze, you lose.

MIAMI DOLPHINS - Passing 223 ypg     Rushing 90 ypg

The Dolphins offense, last season, was the closest you can get to no frills in the NFL.  Former Offensive Coordinator Mike Sherman lined players up in the same position every time and made it predictable for defenses. Replacing Sherman, is Bill Lazor, who was the quarterbacks coach for the Eagles' innovative system. Look for the tempo to be picked up and more offensive plays ran through the course of a game.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Green Bay Packers

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

GREEN BAY PACKERS - Passing 267 ypg    Rushing 134 ypg

The Packers are a well-oiled machine on offense that has typically used a high powered West Coast passing attack over the years but lacked a run game. Their star QB missed seven games with a collar bone injury, and during that time, the team unearthed an element to their game that they have been lacking. Now head coach Mike McCarthy has the balance that he's always wanted. As opponents have to pick their poison, you as a Paper Pigskin player get to choose your remedy.  This team is going to be a headache to prepare for.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - New York Giants

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

NEW YORK GIANTS - Passing 224 ypg      Rushing 83 ypg

There is not much offensive talent on this roster that Paper Pigskin players can use to help them reach the promise land. The Giants finished the preseason with a 5-0 record; much of the success should be attributed to the way their defense has played.  A team's defense is often an overlooked factor when evaluating fantasy players; when defenses are good enough to get off the field, it provides more chances for the offense to produce.  New Offensive Coordinator Ben McAdoo was Green Bay's quarterback coach, he emphasizes the short passing game to allow receivers to make plays after the catch. So far, things haven't gone well; the players have struggled and the team has looked out of sync.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Atlanta Falcons

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

ATLANTA FALCONS - Passing 265 ypg     Rushing 79 ypg

The Falcons, a team that had been known in recent years for putting up impressive numbers, took a step back in the standings last season; they also were a disappointment for Paper Pigskin Point production.  Injuries were a main factor in all areas, but so was their defense; if you can't give the ball back to the offense, then the offense has fewer opportunities to put up numbers. The main offensive threats are back but Tony Gonzalez's retirement will hurt more than pundits think.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Dallas Cowboys

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

DALLAS COWBOYS - Passing 247 ypg     Rushing 94 ypg

The Cowboys ran the fewest offensive plays of any team in the league last year, yet they were still able to finish in the middle of the pack in total yardage as well as top-5 in points scored. Seeing as they have three different play calling gurus in tow, the Paper Pigskin Point Potential for this team remains high. Now that Scott Linehan has been added to the mix - as the passing game coordinator - with Bill Callahan and Jason Garrett, the aerial attack should only improve. The defense, now that's another story.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Detroit Lions

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

DETROIT LIONS – Passing 280 ypg     Rushing 112 ypg

Over the last three seasons, the Lions have been an offensive juggernaut, chewing up tons of real estate but coming up short when it became time to seal the deal.  For the most part, the only beneficiaries of this in Paper Pigskin have been Matthew Stafford and Megatron owners. Not much will be different this time around, except instead of the points being concentrated on the one skill position player, new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi will distribute the wealth. Jim Caldwell is the new head coach; his reputation is of a coach that likes to minimize mistakes and place his team in the best position to succeed.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Baltimore Ravens

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

BALTIMORE RAVENSPassing 224 ypg     Rushing 83 ypg

The first commandment of new Offensive Coordinator Gary Kubiak’s scheme is “Thou Shalt Run It.”  The premise of this offensive system is designed to open backside cut lanes for the running backs; those same running plays set-up bootleg action for the quarterback.  This was one of the worst teams in the league as far as total offense, with very few players that could help your Paper Pigskin team. Something fresh should help change that because in his previous coaching stops, Kubiak had his teams finish in the top-8 in total offense 15 of 19 seasons.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Jacksonville Jaguars

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - Passing 215 ypg     Rushing 79 ypg

To say that Jacksonville was a bad team last season is an understatement. The Jaguars ranked 27th in total yards allowed and 28th in points given up at 28.3 per game. They were even worse on offense than defense in 2013; ranking 31st overall and scored a league-low 15.4 points per game. It's hard to find value in fantasy football on a team with a -12.9 point differential. Gus Bradley was handed a team devoid of talent but is working diligently to transform this team into the Seahawks south, which would mean team glory takes precedent over individual stats. Things are looking bright as they finished with a positive stretch of four wins in eight games; partly because the offense started to find a rhythm, with Chad Henne and Cecil Shorts emerging as leaders.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Minnesota Vikings

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and film.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

MINNESOTA VIKINGSPassing 214 ypg     Rushing 130 ypg

The Vikings defense was pretty terrible last season and couldn’t get stops to hand the ball back to their offense. Then, when the offense got the ball, they were predictable – just letting Adrian Peterson slam into nine-man fronts or running gadget plays for Cordarrelle Patterson later in the season. Enter new head coach, Mike Zimmer, well respected for his defensive pedigree. Mike brought along Norv Turner to be his offensive coordinator; we’ll see a drastic change from the Peter-Patt scheme of a year ago.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Chicago Bears

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and articles.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

CHICAGO BEARS - Passing 268 ypg     Rushing 114 ypg

Marc Trestman aka The Quarterback Whisperer had two stints as a coordinator in the NFL where his teams in San Francisco and Oakland featured high-powered passing games.  The quick passing schemes for his offenses are designed to emphasized efficiency.  They went from 28th in total yards gained to 8th in one season.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Arizona Cardinals

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and video.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

ARIZONA CARDINALS - Passing 250 ypg     Rushing 96 ypg

For years, the calling card in the desert has been terrible rushing, and even worse defense. The latter seems to now be under control thanks to Patrick Peterson and friends; the former appears to be making strides, as long as Bruce Arians features the right person. This has the makings of a highly explosive offense.  Arians knows now that he has as many guns as anybody in the West to win a shootout.

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Carolina Panthers

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and watching video.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

CAROLINA PANTHERS - Passing 190 ypg     Rushing 127 ypg

Carolina's success last season can be attributed to three things; their mistake free and solid tackling defense, the steady improvement of Greg Olsen, and the maturity of Cam Newton. Those three areas were also the only relevant fantasy football elements of this team. Panthers fans should be worried about the turnover in the offensive line as it will affect the time Newton has to make his reads and likely will have to run more often than he did last season. Newton has progressed in such a way that I feel the coaching staff trusts him enough to make passing plays more than the 49% than they called last season.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Tennessee Titans

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and articles.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

TENNESSEE TITANS - Passing 219 ypg     Rushing 118 ypg

Just think of the resurrection of Phillip Rivers' career and the San Diego ball control offense last year to foresee the impact new head coach Ken Whisenhunt can have on this team.  Whisenhunt is a quality coach who can craft an explosive offense.  The Titans have invested a great deal in their offensive line over the past two seasons, including the signing of Michael Oher. There should be better protection for the quarterback and bigger holes for the running backs to run through this season.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Kansas City Chiefs

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and articles.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

Run DAT might be that other weapon the Chiefs desperately need.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - Passing 209 ypg     Rushing 129 ypg

If you weren't lucky enough to land JC Superstar last season, the Chiefs defense for the first half, or Alex Smith for the 2nd half, then I forgive you for not realizing the potential of this unit.  Andy Reid's West Coast system usually provides opportunities for points, hopefully 2014 we'll see some of that potential come to fruition.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - New Orleans Saints

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and articles.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS - Passing 302 ypg     Rushing 92 ypg

No offense has been as prolific as the Saints during the Sean Payton/Drew Brees era. This has been done without having an All-Pro at the running back or wide receiver position. However, they do have the best tight end in real and Paper Pigskin. Many try to copy but they just can't sketch it. Whatever the formula, Payton provides nice flavor with minor adjustment to the measurements from year to year. What's added to the recipe this season?

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Cleveland Browns

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football).  What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and articles.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

CLEVELAND BROWNS - Passing 253 ypg     Rushing 86 ypg

Johnny Manziel is all people want to talk about when the Cleveland Browns are brought up. For fantasy football purposes, the name you need to know is Kyle Shanahan. His offenses typically run the ball fairly well while employing a zone blocking scheme. The normal sets use double tights quarterback bootlegs are a staple of his system; usually only one wide receiver is eating the pigskin as the others are fighting for scraps. Cleveland's offense led the NFL in percentage of pass plays called in 2013. It'll be quite the contrast this time around.

Paper Pigskin Point Potential 2014 - Cincinnati Bengals

This is a series on my 2014 outlook of players you would want to have on your Paper Pigskin team (fantasy football). What you'll find here are my views based on years of playing experience and countless hours of geeking out researching stats, trends, and articles.  I'll advise where to reach and whose hype not to believe.

Tyler Eifert is one of my biggest sleepers

CINCINNATI BENGALS - Passing 259 ypg     Rushing 110 ypg

The Bengals are going to pound the ball on the ground under new Offensive Coordinator Hue Jackson. Jackson also promised the offense would be faster and more rhythmic than in years past. Reports out of camp are the Bengals have incorporated more no-huddle and are playing at a slightly quicker pace than they did under Jay Gruden.

Keith Price - Rising to the Top

How does one prepare himself for success when there are people who don’t think he is worthy of reaching his goal?  The statistics clearly state he should receive an invitation to an event where all the best will be present, where they all have the opportunity to showcase their talents and have them compared side by side in front of talent evaluators that shape futures.

How does he keep a million dollar smile on his grill after the negative experiences?  NFL prospect, Keith Price, quarterback from the University of Washington, wouldn’t have even made it this far if other people had their way.

Introduced to Price while we were both attending the same baby shower, less than two weeks from the 2014 NFL draft, he was gracious enough to share some of his thoughts with me. “Playing in the NFL is all I ever dreamed about.  It’s all I ever wanted to do since I was a kid throwing the football right here in the street,” KP said to me with the trademark smile (UW fans call him Teeth Price) on his face after I prodded him about his level of nervousness, “It’s more about finally realizing that my dream is coming true.”

KP wanted to know what my thoughts were about his place among the quarterback prospects after mutual friends told him that “I know more about sports than anyone around here.” I sized KP up and mentioned that I’m not an expert on talent evaluation but if I stand about an inch taller than him, off the top of my head I can say that he doesn’t have the prototypical quarterback height (I’m 6’3”), however that didn’t stand in Drew Brees’ or Russell Wilson’s way of winning Super Bowls.

After breaking several University of Washington career passing records, Price was overlooked for a place on the post-season Senior Bowl roster and even worse, didn’t receive an invite to the annual NFL combine in Indianapolis. The NFL combine is where collegiates who are hopeful of playing in the NFL display their athletic abilities and skills via a variety of drills in front of representatives which include general managers, assistant coaches, scouts, and medical staffs of all 32 NFL teams.

Asked about being snubbed from the combine KP said “I’ve had to deal with playing in the shadows my entire life. In high school (St. John Bosco in Bellflower, CA), I played in the same league as Matt Barkley. When I got to U-dub, they wanted to give the job to Nick Montana (son of Hall of Fame quarterback, Joe Montana). I never worry about what anybody from the outside says about me, I just put in the work and stay focused.”

Prior to receiving the news about not being invited to the combine, Price was training daily with several of the players who would later showcase their skills including the number one prospect, Blake Bortles from the University of Central Florida. Price ranks his abilities “right up there with the best of them.” He has a good relationship with the aforementioned Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks, who has taken him under his wing, who believes Keith can be a starting quarterback at the highest level.I asked Keith how his workout at the University of Washington was received and he responded, “They saw what I can do.”

In the midst of laughs and a bunch of little kids running around, KP always has a smile on his face as an example to them to be happy because good things are ahead.  “I believe that the cream will always rise to the top,” is what he said to me as we parted ways.

Mike D'Antoni Resigns From Lakers

I can't even be objective about this post to tell you the truth, as a Lakers' fan, I am so happy right now. After coaching the Los Angeles Lakers through their worst season in franchise history, coach Mike D'Antoni resigned from his post.

Not many other coaches would have survived the season under the immense slander he received from the Lakers' fan base. He didn't have much ammunition from the armory, as Kobe Bryant missed most of the season with injury to highlight the MASH unit that masqueraded as a professional basketball team. He was constantly at odds with the best player, Pau Gasol, and his defensive schemes were comical at best.

I tip my hat to coach Mike D'Antoni for doing the right thing by stepping down. Now, the coaching search begins. Who is next? Byron Scott? John Calipari? The NBA will be waiting for the announcement.

Donald Sterling: Just a Reminder, So What Should Be Done?

To the informed fans of the NBA, Donald Sterling's character had been well known for many years, so his latest display, thanks to TMZ, shouldn't come as a shock and elicit outrage. It should have been a simple reminder.

I ask those that are calling for his head:

Those are just a few of the reasons why very few free agents or coaches wanted to be employed by this organization in the past, and part of the reason that they were trash. It wasn't until David Stern vetoed the Lakers' trade for Chris Paul - he wanted to play in Los Angeles badly - adding him to the Clippers mix to help rising star Blake Griffin decide to be the first top shelf player to ACTUALLY WANT to sign a long term deal with the team. The rest is history. The team's performance on the court ushered the Sterling disdain into the background and made people forget about all of the bad he had done.

My Proposed Solution

Unfortunately forcing Donald Sterling to sell the Clippers while their value is at an all-time high will only benefit him.  What I propose is for the NBA to issue a death penalty on the Clippers. Take away the Clippers draft picks for the next five years and allowing any of their current players that are under contract to leave the team and make the Clippers pay their wages. Then remove the Clippers from any nationally-broadcasted games. This way, it will hurt Donald Sterling's pockets.

What do you think should be done about this?

Steel Reserves

The fan votes have been tallied for the 2014 NBA All-Star Game and the starters have been announced, picking the All-Star reserves is the hard part and with those selections are where the majority of the complaints are voiced. There should really be no bickering about the starters because the game is for the fans and they vote who they want to see.

The reserves however, should only be chosen based on merit
The coaches choose who the seven reserves are for their respective conference, and are given certain guidelines that need to be followed in order for the roster to be filled out:
Players must be ranked in specific order of preference in three categories.
  1. They must vote for two guards, three frontcourt players and two wild cards.
  2. Each coach is instructed to vote for players at the position he thinks is most advantageous for the All-Star team and not necessarily the one he normally plays during the season.
  3. Voting for their own players is restricted.

With that caveat, I give you my choices for All Star reserves.

The Western Conference All Stars as voted by the fans are Kobe Bryant (injured), Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, and Kevin Love.

Backcourt 1 - James Harden  He's the league's top scoring guard, gets to the cup and splashes from deep, and he's also a quality playmaker that drops over five dimes on the regular.

Backcourt 2 - Tony Parker  He's really one of the most under-appreciated of this era. A very efficient scorer, he shoots over 51% from the field and 43% from deep.

Frontcourt 1 - Lamarcus Aldridge  Finally living up to the promise that most scouts saw in him prior to being drafted. He's having a career year while leading the surprise team in the West in scoring and rebounding at 24.2 and 11.2 respectively.

Frontcourt 2 - Dwight Howard  Other than having some of his defensive numbers lower than usual, he's doing what he's always done, albeit less of an impact on his current team.

Frontcourt 3 - Anthony Davis  Here's a guy that is living up to every expectation of him and some, as he's an impact player on both ends of the court.

Wildcard 1 - Damian Lillard  I would have thought due to the rise of Aldridge that his assists would be up but they've taken a dip. Nevertheless, when you win games like his team has, he's earned his spot here.

Wildcard 2 - Chris Paul Until it's confirmed that he won't be back in time, the last spot belongs to the best point guard of this era.

*It's likely Kobe Bryant won't participate on the court, therefore incoming commissioner Adam Silver will choose his replacement. Dirk Nowitzki should receive the nod here, as it is likely he won't see another one of these games.

The Eastern Conference All Stars as voted by the fans are Kyrie Irving, Dwyane Wade, Lebron James, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony.

Backcourt 1 - John Wall I don't know what USAB was thinking when they left Wall out of the 28 player pool for international play but he's clearly the best point guard in the Eastern Conference this season. one of only two players in the entire league averaging 20 points and 8 assists per game.

Backcourt 2 - Demar Derozan The go-to player on a division leading team is putting up decent numbers this season. His style of play is perfectly suited for this type of wide open game.

Frontcourt 1 - Roy Hibbert  This should be an automatic choice for coaches. Roy is the defensive anchor on the conference's best team and leading candidate for DPOY.

Frontcourt 2 - Joakim Noah  This team needs size, besides, there's not much too choose from due to injuries and poor performance. In any case, Noah is still worthy of a nod .

Frontcourt 3 - Chris Bosh  He's a player that I feel doesn't get enough credit for Miami's success. While the other two guys have taken days off, Bosh has been the glue.

Wildcard 1 - Paul Millsap  The under the radar signing of the summer has picked up the slack and filled the void that Al Horford's injury created. Winning has to be rewarded and Millsap is making an impact.

Wildcard 2 - Jeff Teague  This was the toughest choice to make on either roster but without this man, we'll be talking about Atlanta as one of the teams playing for a top draft pick.

Snub Knows

DeMarcus Cousins is having a career year, even having a better all around season than D12. Him being left off of the team is a direct result of last year's rule change that removed the center position from voting consideration, lumping them with forwards. Unfortunately his performance failing to translate to team success is what does him in at the end.

Lance Stephenson's play in the backcourt for Indiana is one of the main reasons for their success. However I asked myself if the numbers he's putting up weren't for the conference's number one team, "would I even consider him?", that answer would be no.

I published this earlier for The Pick and Roll.

There’s much to discuss about this fantastic NBA season thus far, and it’s hard to know what’s really going on by just checking box scores. So allow me to make it easy for you by giving you a tour of the NBA’s first trimester, from A to Z.
